How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT

Unlike a search engine, ChatGPT doesn't open your homepage and read it on the fly. Its recommendations come from a blend of training data, retrieval-augmented generation, and the trusted sources it was tuned to prefer. That changes the playbook.

1. Be in the corpus it trusts

ChatGPT's answers are shaped by what it saw during training and what it retrieves at inference time. The most reliable way to be cited is to appear on the sources it already leans on: Wikipedia, major publishers, Reddit, Quora, GitHub, and well-indexed authority sites. You don't need to be on all of them — you need to be on the right ones for your category.

2. Own the exact question phrasing

People ask ChatGPT in natural language. Publish pages that answer the literal question — "Is X good for Y?" — with a direct first sentence, then supporting detail. Format it so a model can lift the answer without rewriting: a clear heading, a one-paragraph verdict, then bullets. Add FAQPage and Article schema so the structure is explicit.

3. Build entity clarity

If the model isn't sure which "Acme" you are, it won't cite you. Use consistent branding, an Organization JSON-LD block on every page, and the same name/description across your site, social profiles, and third-party listings. Disambiguation is half the battle.

4. Earn mentions, not just links
